A couple of years ago I went through a bit of a Mod Podge phase. This rolling pin was one of my favorite projects to come out of it.
This project was simple and fun. I purchased decorative tissue paper from the Dollar Tree, some Mod Podge, and a $5 wooden rolling pin from Walmart. Everything else I already had. First, I lightly sanded and painted the rolling section in Waverly Cashew chalk paint. Once dry, I cut tissue paper in chunks – uneven, no rhyme or reason to it. Applied the Mod Podge to a section of the rolling pin, placed the tissue paper on it, and kept going until it was covered. Finally, I used Dixie Belle glaze in Van Dyke brown to give it an aged appearance. For any wrinkled pieces of tissue paper, I smoothed them out by rubbing wax paper over them.
Just a cheap, creative outlet on a Saturday afternoon. : ) Little projects like this are also perfect for adding personality to a vignette using things you already love.
