One of my favorite things about decorating is creating vignettes. I love using different heights, textures, and elements to create something a little French country and a whole lot – me. I think decorating should reflect an individual’s “home style personality”.
And the best part? You don’t necessarily need to buy anything new.
Take this summery vignette in my dining area created a month or so ago. I used greenery that I pulled from my spring/summer storage box, a couple of twine balls, some faux brown pears, colorful faux cabbages sitting in a milk glass fruit bowl that belonged to my grandmother, and a newly purchased wooden tray.
It’s basically my “home style personality” in one little grouping – mixing old and new, using things I already have, and adding something meaningful whenever I can.
My coffee table vignette is another one I played with by shopping our other rooms. The little box, for example, was in a bedroom. It works perfectly in the living area because it hides the not-so-pretty necessities like coasters and remotes. Pretty and practical is always a win.
And here’s a simple one: a grouping of dollar-store cutting boards, stained and distressed by yours truly, along with that decoupaged rolling pin. This is a simple farmhouse-style vignette that sits above my stove. I didn’t have something old to add to this one, so I did the next best thing – I made them look old instead.
That’s really how I approach vignettes throughout my home. I don’t follow a strict formula, and I don’t think everything needs to match. I move things around, borrow pieces from other rooms, mix something old with something new, and keep playing until it feels right.
Sometimes the smallest little corner can say the most about the people who live there. So shop your house, pull out something you’ve forgotten about, add something that means something to you, and create a little moment that’s completely your own.
After all, the best decorating doesn’t just make a home look pretty – it makes it feel like your home.
